Charles Daly 1911s

I've never owned a Charles Daly, just SA, Colt, Kimber, STI, and my retirement present to myself a Luke Volkmann. I enjoy these 1911's and haven't shot the CD or known anyone who has. Hopefully you enjoy your purchase.

I might agree with fatinggoo about the SA Mil-Spec. I bought one years ago, ran it a while, then sent it to John Harrison for a complete makeover. It's now one of my safe queens and shot rarely due to John's incredible work. Best trigger I have on ANY gun. The SA though will run you several hundred dollars more than a Tisas, which I would still rate as #1 in your price range.
Why would you not shoot it with it having such a good trigger that's what it was made for. Take it out & enjoy it shooting! See what size groups you're capable of shooting with the economically purchased 1911. What sights does it have on it?

Anyone held/shot one of these? I am looking at them in the 9mm and there are a few YT videos on them but looking for first hand. I know there are many brands that may be better but these are Sub-400 and I want to start with this one before moving to more. At Palmetto State Armory you can pick one up rather cheap.
I only own and have fired Colts and a Sig.
Sorry

I haven't checked out the CD 1911... but, if like other Chiappa imports I've seen, they would be lower quality builds... I'd recommend as others above and go with Tisas ...or Rock Island Armory for best cost/value... I've seen, sold and / or owned those and was favorably impressed even compared to the Colts, Springfield Armory, and Kimbers I own(ed)... and, if I run across another one that spikes my interest, may very well buy again... Best of luck in your search...

Heard about / read about/ seen in ads, but never owned or shot a CD 1911.
I would probably choose a Tisas or RIA 1911, if my price range was ltd. to sub $500.00 range, only because to the large # of positive experiences reported by their owners. Service after the sale is important, & from reading here, CD may not be acceptable. That was my experience with American Classic, bought a CMDR size 9mm & due to lack of customer support, won't buy / own another American Classic.
I have a couple RIA's ( a 5" 9mm & Officer size 45 acp) ...they may not have the ego gratification of the more expensive brands, but function fine. I would have tried a Tisas, as I like the idea of a forged frame & non MIM parts, but from a practical standpoint they're not necessary, IMO. and I already have too many 1911's. That may seem an impossibility, but I've got them in 380, several in various sizes in 9mm & 45, as well as in
40 S&W / 10mm. More 1911's than I have time to shoot.

I have shot the .45 version. It was a fellow shooter who owned it. If all I could afford was $400, I would buy it. I am pretty sure the 9mm would be of the same quality. I would probably take it change a few things such as an ambi-safety because I am left handed. Possibly get a fited busing to accurize it if necessary for tighter groups. Litlle things, but not put alot of $$ into it. One day you might step up to a nicer pistol. Have fun!

Im looking at Tisas since you can get those pretty cheap also Rock Island but I think I am settles on Tisas seeing as everyone likes them here.

I have never owned a CD 1911, I think as long as you adjust your expectations to align with an entry level pistol, you will be ok. Regardless of name brand, any 1911 can be made to run well, it comes down to how much time and money you want to spend on it.

Sorry, but to me a 1911 in 9mm is sacrilegious...that's why they make CZ 75s. Just my two cents.

I would look at both if you canto see which one you like best. check out the fit and finish, how tight they are, the trigger, etc. Good luck

Wish I had some experience to share but these days most of the inexpensive 1911's seem to run fine, I've had several RIA's and never a problem

No experience with Daly….. I have seen Tisas at USPSA competitions and I was impressed

I haven't owned a Charles Dailey, but my buddy owns one and it shoots consistent for the money.

I have fired a Charles Daly not long ago, ran fine, was 45. If I was going to purchase a 1911 in that price range I would go with Rock Island or Tisas. Had a few rocks over the years never an issue. I have a Rock in 10mm it runs great actually better than the springfield in 10 that I have

Sounds like the census is Tisas or RIA. I have no experience with either. But buy what you want, save if you have to, cry once.
I have owned many 1911s, the MIM parts are replaced. I have had good luck with Spri gfield, older Kimbers, Para Ordnance.
Your journey begins....

Dear Friend,
Please find attached a link to a video providing a review of the CD 1911. Chiappa owns the CD brand. Reports indicate that CD's 1911s are manufactured by Chiappa, Italy, a fine arms manufacturer, https://www.chiappafirearms.com/category/gun The field grade comes in case hardened finish and black finish. https://www.charlesdaly.com/category/gun/handguns/semiauto/1911 If you like, Chiappa even makes 1911 with those awful forward slide serrations, which are all the rage (apparently a small loaded chamber indicator will not do for some folks). I encourage you to compare the warranty offered between the various 1911 manufacturers. Charles Daly's website does not make any mention of a a warranty. Chiappa provides a 1 year warranty: https://www.chiappafirearms.com/frontend/warranty.xhtml

When I purchase my Charles Daly Hi Power, with its former owners, in 2007, it came with a lifetime repair warranty- the deciding factor for my purchase. Buyer beware.

Have not owned any Charles Daly 1911, But do own a Charles Daly Hi-Power, I bought it out of curiosity and I still have it after over twenty years and shoot it regularly, Still have Colt's and Brownings but have never been dissatisfied With Charles Daly and Browning parts interchange with it. That said if I were you I would not be afraid to try one, a night out on the town would cost you that much with todays inflation.
