I have always liked this company. Even more so now. That is impressive.
I only hope other companies within the industry that reap such great profit from us help out in some way, shape or form as well. Whether it be the NRA, SAF, GOA, boycotting ban states, etc.

I remain unimpressed by the NRA's "defense" against this assault.
Millions of dollars a year into a treasury to be used as a defense against an attack just like this and they have been deafningly silent. Seems to me that the NRA is turning out to be just like the hundreds of organizations in the US who raise billions yet spend little on anything other than self promotion and self grandization.
There should be commercials on all the major stations explaining "black rifles" in simple terms, commercials pointing out the p[lain lies being told by the left.
It seems the whole trajedy and subsequent assauolt on rights is being used by the NRA as just another fund raising event.
You can have them.

Surely you have a Second Amendment Foundation member card, or perhaps you have donated funds to support the New York State Rifle/Pistol Association's lawsuit against the SAFE Act? Maybe you sent a check to the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners to help our brothers and sisters in Colorado who are in a desperate fight at this very moment?
Or perhaps you work more locally, organizing the members of your range to do mass letter-writing, phone calling, and rally campaigns to influence legislators?
NRA costs zero dollars to join right now (because I will pay your membership fee) and they are the most effective organization we have on the national level. They ARE being effective and they are not compromising on anything at this time. They are even opposing universal background checks.
NRA's lobbying budget last year was just under $3 million, which puts them at #170 in the DC lobbying pack. The ILA's total expenditures were around $25 million, which isn't even in the DC Top 10 for spending. In contrast, Mayor Bloomberg's net worth is $5000 million dollars and he is leading the gun control charge, with plenty of willing help from a very biased media giving tons of free air time to the gun control crusade.
NRA is producing a line of commercials (http://www.nrastandandfight.com/video/we-are-america), hard hitting commercials. They're hiring new fresh faces like Colin Noir. They're doing ad buys in states that matter (i.e. states with sway-able Blue Dog Senators up for re-election soon). Do you think it would be a smarter strategy for them to air commercials in South Carolina rather than states with vulnerable swing-vote senators like West Virginia, Alaska, and 13 other states (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government ... e-Election)? How much air time do you think NRA can buy? I went through the first AWB. I owned a Colt 6601 and a Glock 19. I ddint know a single person that owned an AK, I know one guy who had a SS mini on his boat for sharks, and I knew noone that owned an AR.
Out of the guys I knew and shot with the only one that owned a pistol with a capacity of more than 9 rounds was one guy that had a browning highpower.
SO in 1993 it was fairly easy for the media to mis-portray "black rifles" and call the Assault Weapons.
BECAUSE, the majority of folks didnt know any better and had no personal experience with them.
Fast forward to today...
Everyone I know who owns a gun owns a black rifle or a HC pistol of some sorts, if not multiples.
#1 Its a hard damn sell, on the gun grabbers part, to convince people that something is evil when they have one sitting in the hallway closet.
#2 The media is not as consolidated today as it was in 1993. In 1993 there was no social media, not internet news. It was basicly the big 3, CSPAN and CNN. So the assault rifle message was easy to drum. (ie people still belived the news).
#3 not since prohibition has a possible ban on a dometstic product had the potential to effect the recreation of such a large number of Americans.
Its plain to understand that a ban on assault weapons will effect multiple millions of Americans. probably in the area of 50 millionAmericans own black rifles and pistols.
Back to my original point... WHO can we thank for there being so many guns in the hands of so many Americans?
WHo is responsible for every Tom, Dick and Harry running out and buying AK's, Ar's and the like...The NRA?

i heard only 6 to 10 million "assault" rifles. easy to crush.
300 million Americans and they say 300 million guns. problem is, i have ,ah more than one, so if every owner has 10 there could only be 30 million owners. with averages there may be only 10 million gun owners.

I'm a fan of Midway, and respect their actions. Like others, I've not been a big fan of the NRA for reasons already mentioned above. I've much more preferred the GOA, for their "No Compromise" position. However, that being said, I did renew my NRA membership and hand out a few gift memberships last December when this storm began, because I think every little bit helps right now. (but I still much prefer the GOA) LOL

I agree 100% that getting new shooters involved is very important. Hand in hand with that is Shall Issue CCW, because it turns people from target shooters or fudds into people who own guns for self-defense. SAF has led the charge on getting CCW expanded further every year, and in less than five months now every state will have some sort of carry law; NRA thinks they will get Shall Issue in Chicago. CalGuns thinks they will get Shall Issue in California in 2014. We can't take everyone shooting though, and shooters need to be motivated to become politically active to have any sort of effect on their representatives.
If NRA is politicized to the far right, why did they endorse Harry Reid for re-election? NRA will endorse Ds and Rs. They tend to focus on Rs because the Dems are the national party of gun control, but if an incumbent D is pro-gun then they will retain an endorsement and an A rating. If the NRA was far right, and had successfully scuttled Harry Reid, you know who would be running the Senate right now? Chuck Schumer, who is an extreme rabid gun grabber.
GOA is FAR more partisan, and gets involved in all sorts of ancillary issues like the Obamacare debate. They endorse only Republicans. They also have zero lobbying presence in Washington DC beyond Larry Pratt and an intern or two. I'm a GOA member too because I loved seeing Larry Pratt tear Piers Morgan a new one, but I have no illusions that they are effective at all on the Hill. Thus far, NRA has not ceded any ground on the current issues so they are not compromising at all either.
I am not willing to concede the Soap Box or Ballot Box so easily. Do writing letters and sending faxes and making phone calls matter? I think they do at the state and local level, with less impact at the national level (but not zero impact -- look at Joe Manchin's backpedal). I have no illusions that they are a panacea, but the alternatives to the Soap Box and Ballot Box are terrible to contemplate. We must try and exhaust the soap and ballot box. If the Soap/Ballot boxes are useless, why is POTUS faking twitter accounts to lobby for gun control? Why is Bloomberg spending money on ads in Colorado? Why are anti-gun folks bussing in crowds? Legislator contact from constituents works to some degree. We don't win every time, but there is a chance. If you don't even bother trying then it is guaranteed to not work.
If you think money is all that matters, what is the excuse for not giving more? There are at least a hundred million gun owners in the US. If every gun owner gave $50 to their state level organization, SAF, NRA, GOA, etc we'd match Mayor Bloomberg's entire personal fortune and swamp his MAIG warchest. If you think all of those organizations are corrupt sellouts, then you would reasonably be pooling money with likeminded people via the magic of the internets and doing your own ad buys. I know folks in NY who are buying billboards on the road to Albany targeting RINO sellouts, for example, coordinating via the internet. Folks in Colorado are organizing a privately funded recall effort. Sitting back and wailing that we're outgunned financially and thus there is no point in trying is giving up the ship prematurely.
Like it or not, NRA is the most effective single organization we have right now, this moment, to beat back some pretty crappy stuff nationwide. I agree that getting new shooters active is important in the long run, and we are doing that (we've trained/created/converted around a dozen new shooters & gunowners this year, plus Appleseed classes), but it will not be fast enough or in the right electoral districts to win this fight in the short run. How do you think that industries Like, tabacco, alcoholic beverages, fast (non)food and the like continue to be the chief cause of millions of dealths in this country and the world every year but the gun industry gets assaulted when 20 people die?
You would think that an organization the size of the NRA would be more constructive.
Guns are in a catagory of products termed as VICE.
Ask a stockbroker how they are classified.
When there is a VICE industry it knows that a good portion of its profits need to be put into advertisment for the mere sake of putting on a front to the mass public.
The masses are sheep.

We dont have any friend. the NRA does not support US. We only have each other and the ONLY SOLUTION is to get as many guns in the hands of as many Americans as quickly as possible.
If you want to call a governement official, go ahead. But before you do, read about the 10% excise tax and what the loss of billions of dollars will do the the federal and state game managment, parks and recreation and habitat preserves all over this country. Talk of lost skilled jobs and industries like FN manufacturing and PSA being forced out becasue of thier product lines.

But, if you want to make a difference, i suggest this...
Find a buddy or two that will pitch in $75-$100 bucks.
buy a sporterized milsurp or the like and some ammo.
Donate it to a non gun owner that you can take out and teach. MAKE A NEW GUN OWNER!
Your money will be much more well spent than by giving it to the NRA.
yeas it will take some effort on your part, some time from YOUR life to train a person. But while you are teaching them about gun safety, manual of arms ect you also have the opportunity to slide in prinipals. teach them about the need for individul gun ownership ect.

Because the only true reason they want to keep gun laws loose is to sell more product, may more profit and keep stock holders happy.

Its not about ideals or principals.
They have stock holders who dont care about the Bill of rights, they care about dividends.
What do you think they talk about at the Ruger board Meetings? John Locke? Thomas Pain? you think the discuss Heller and its effects on the rights of people?
BS! they talk about projected sales growth, how to maintain thier share of the Market.

We dont have any friend. the NRA does not support US. We only have each other and the ONLY SOLUTION is to get as many guns in the hands of as many Americans as quickly as possible.
If you want to call a governement official, go ahead. But before you do, read about the 10% excise tax and what the loss of billions of dollars will do the the federal and state game managment, parks and recreation and habitat preserves all over this country. Talk of lost skilled jobs and industries like FN manufacturing and PSA being forced out becasue of thier product lines.

But, if you want to make a difference, i suggest this...
Find a buddy or two that will pitch in $75-$100 bucks.
buy a sporterized milsurp or the like and some ammo.
Donate it to a non gun owner that you can take out and teach. MAKE A NEW GUN OWNER!
Your money will be much more well spent than by giving it to the NRA.
yeas it will take some effort on your part, some time from YOUR life to train a person. But while you are teaching them about gun safety, manual of arms ect you also have the opportunity to slide in prinipals. teach them about the need for individul gun ownership ect.
Its very satisfing.
